Save Senn Arts
One Victory, more to go!
On December 19, the Principal of Senn High School notified families that all current Senn Arts students from grades 9-12 would be able to experience full arts program as it was presented to them when they chose to enroll at Senn. After weeks of emailing and calling Chicago Public Schools officials, the parents and students working to save Senn High School’s unique Senn Arts program see this as a great victory but not the end goal.
Here is our Press Release in response to this latest news.
Your Attention, Please!
In November, Principal Dacres suddenly announced major cuts to the Senn Arts program that will reduce the total number of guaranteed classes from 8 to 5.
This cut will significantly impact nearly 20% of the Senn Student body—students who chose Senn High School over any other neighborhood, choice, selective enrollment, or private school in Chicago.
We're calling upon the Senn Administration and CPS to:
1. Cancel the proposed cuts to the Senn Arts program and work together to find solutions that ensure graduation compliance while restoring the program's unique and successful model.
2. Work with Senn Arts students, parents, teachers, and other Senn High School stakeholders to develop program models and schedules that strengthen Senn for all students, including restoring valuable opportunities for weekend performances and tech rehearsals that have been lost this year.
3. Recommit to cultivating a vibrant educational environment through listening to the voices of students, teachers, and parents.
